The world is full of gossip. I sometimes wonder what would happen if we spent as much time praying as we do gossiping. Or (and this would be even more revolutionary) if we used the time we spent gossiping for prayer instead...

So, I recently decided to choose a celebrity and make an effort to pray for that person rather than gossip about them. After settling on one celebrity - Tom Cruise - I decided to get some help from the Seraphic Mass Association. Then I wrote Mr. Cruise a letter, inspired by something I read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Of course, I may be completely wrongheaded. There are some resources on the Internet that discuss the benefits of gossip. Check out this book, and this article in Psychology Today.

I guess the jury is still out on this one.
